At BRAVA, we work with students of all ages and abilities, from complete beginners to seasoned professionals. We offer a rigorous and realistic pathway into voiceover, guided by experienced master coaches who know the industry inside out. There are no gimmicks or shortcuts, only focus, practice, and persistence, supported by expert instruction that leads to genuine, professional results.
Our Comprehensive Voiceover Course is designed to guide you from curiosity to confidence, through a structured, immersive learning experience. The program is divided into four progressive stages, each one building on the last to develop your confidence, versatility, and technical mastery: Foundation, Narration, Commercial and Characters.

What is BRAVA?
BRAVA was founded by Melissa Thom in 2021 as the Bristol Academy of Voice Acting. We are now simply known as BRAVA.
Where should I start with voiceover training?
Begin with our Foundation Course, then move to intensive 1-1 training starting with STAGE 1: Narration. If skipping the Foundation Course, an initial call and short audition are required.

What are the benefits of studying with BRAVA?
Our coaches are industry experts. Melissa Thom, founder and CEO, has over 25 years’ experience across the UK and US. Elaine Clark, Head of Characters, has over 40 years’ experience as a voice actor, coach, and producer in the US. Our Bristol-based teachers also have extensive experience training actors at Bristol Old Vic Theatre School and performing at major venues across the UK and US. Regular masterclasses support core training in areas such as characters, vocal health, Shakespeare, audiobooks, singing, and more.
Where are the courses held?
Courses are offered via Zoom, with masterclasses delivered online and in person. VO demos are recorded in our Bristol or US-partner studios. BRAVA Business courses are offered online, with optional in-person masterclasses.
Do I need acting experience to train as a VO?
No. While we train drama students, we also work with people with no formal acting background, teaching everything needed to succeed as a VO artist.
Do I receive a qualification?
Graduates of STAGE 1–3 over two years part-time may join the Spotlight graduate program. There is no degree-level qualification for voice acting. BRAVA provides certificates of course completion and online badges. Coaches have over 20+ years' experience, ensuring high-quality training based on real working environments.
How long should I train before cutting my demo reel?
It varies. With your coach, you’ll determine the right timing. For beginners, it may take 1–2 years.
How do I make a voiceover demo?
We offer demo production services for narration, commercial, and character work. Email info@brava.uk.com for details.
What does it take to make it as a VO?
Time, commitment, and realistic budgeting. There are no shortcuts: train, learn, and practice consistently.
How much does it cost?
Fees range from £50–£150+vat per hour (+vat), depending on bespoke training needs. Audition fees are £40+vat.

Spotlight membership
Training with BRAVA demands commitment, focus, and creativity. Over the course of two years (part time), you will train intensively across all Core Modules: Narration, Commercial, and Characters, each designed to challenge your skills and push your craft to the highest level.On successful completion of all three modules, you will be eligible to apply for a Spotlight Performers Membership, a benchmark of professional recognition in the industry.
