Carla O'Shaughnessy

“The training has given me so much confidence in how to approach different scripts.”

Carla approached BRAVA with an extensive CV in the world of radio - as a producer on the Jeremy Vine Show on BBC R2 - and significant experience in PR and corporate comms - having worked for some of the most established communications agencies and brands, including Freud Communications and Barclays.

Carla also had experience in acting, having performed in productions on the London fringe, Edinburgh Festival, Minack Theatre and Jardin Shakespeare in Paris. She wanted to dig deep into the theory and performance of VO, so she joined BRAVA on our Narration and Commercial intensive courses, attended select Masterclasses and free talks.

Once Carla had completed the training and cut her demos, she started booking work almost immediately and since training with us has worked in corporate narration, IVR, voice of God, commercial radio, BBC, movie trailers and e-Learning.

There was so much I gained from my training at BRAVA. To start with I didn't have much of a clue but I now feel confident about approaching scripts and have a "tool box" I can reach into with lots of little tips and tricks.

Before doing commercials, I was quite ‘actor-y’ in my delivery, which isn't always the right choice for ads. It was good to have the freedom to play and explore what worked.

I always know I'm in very safe hands with BRAVA. Melissa gives it to you straight, with loads of practical tips for improving the reads. She's a great cheerleader and totally makes me feel like I can go out there and smash it! If you're serious about getting work, rather than just "playing" at VO, then BRAVA is where you need to be. It’s just brilliant.

Carla is a perfect example of someone who commits 100%. She has a thorough understanding of the corporate world and how to deal with clients, along with bags of talent. She has taken the learning here at BRAVA seriously and has already established herself as a successful working VO. She is a consummate professional and it is a real joy to see her add VO to her already extensive skillset.
