Introducing The AI Voice

Season 4 of HIGH NOTES is in production, confirmed by Forbes this week. Called 'The AI Voice', the new season will expore AI and the future of the human voice. Each episode will look at where AI is already reshaping voice work: in advertising, through the law and policy, in publishing, and in gaming. We’ll be covering both sides, looking at the risks and the traps, but also where AI voice is being used well and how performers, brands and platforms can harness it for good.

Asking the difficult questions

But conversation around synthetic and human voices is not straightforward. As BRAVA's founder Melissa Thom told Forbes:

“We’re focusing a lot of our attention on how AI is affecting our industry.”

The same article leads with new research showing listeners increasingly can't tell AI-narrated audiobooks from human ones, reporting that some listeners grow more open to AI narration once they've heard it. So we'll be asking: once the difference gets harder to hear, what's left to protect? Craft, or the fact that a human gets paid and credited for the work?
