We are thrilled to bring you a talk with renowned Natural History Executive Producer, Vanessa Berlowitz, and BRAVA Founder, Melissa Thom, discussing the role of VO in natural history TV & Film.

Background

With over 30 years’ experience in the industry, Vanessa studied Human Sciences at Oxford University, then joined the BBC's Natural History Unit making over 15 films for 5 award-winning landmark series: Planet Earth, Frozen Planet, Life of Mammals, Land of the Tiger and the Human Animal.

Travels with Attenborough

She travelled from the North to the South Pole with Sir David Attenborough whilst producing and directing the opening episode of Frozen Planet, a series for which she won a Primetime Emmy as Series Producer. She also became an Executive Producer at the BBC for Great Bear Stakeout, Life in the Air and Planet Earth 2.

Award-winning

Her films have been highly awarded by EMMY, BAFTA, RTS, Jackson Hole Wildlife Film Festival, Missoula International Wildlife Festival and Wildscreen. She is also a BAFTA and Grierson nominated Director. On leaving the BBC after 25 years, Vanessa moved to Botswana with her husband and son to live in the bush for 2 years, where they made ‘Elephant’ for Disneynature.

National Geographic & Disneynature

Vanessa is now based in Bristol and is co-founder and Chief Creative Officer of Wildstar Films, where she is currently working on 7 landmark series for National Geographic and Disney+, as well as another feature length film for Disneynature.
